Kovalam
 
     

Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It has been a favourite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s. A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing. The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse. Sunbathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programmes and catamaran cruising are some of them. The tropical sun acts so fast that one can see the faint blush of coppery tan on the skin in a matter of minutes. Life on the beach begins late in the day and carries on well into the night.

 
   
Lighthouse Beach  
   
This southernmost Lighthouse Beach has remained a favorite place for holidaying since the year 1930 especially for the Europeans. The azure blue water coupled with the soft breeze and palm trees make a perfect holiday. The lighthouse of the beach offers a magnificent view of its surrounding to the tourists.
 
   
Hawa Beach  
   
Crowded with plenty of shops, Hawa Beach is also a favorite tourist place in Kovalam. The beach is an extended part of the Lighthouse Beach.
 
   
Padmanabhapuram Palace  
   
Located close to the Veli Hills, Padmanabhapuram Palace is a remarkable example of woodwork of the architecture of Kerala. The residential address of the rulers of Travancore, this palace is frequented by locals and foreigners alike.
 
   
Varkala Beach  
   
Considered as a principal pilgrimage center for the Hindus, the array of handicraft shops of this beach is popular among the tourists and locals alike.
 
   
Koyikkal Palace  
   
The official address of the State of Travancore rulers, Koyikkal Palace was built during the 15th century. Presently this popular tourist attraction of Kovalam houses a Numismatic Museum as well as a Folklore Museum.
 
   
Vellayani Lake  
   
This freshwater lake is located 7 km from the beach town of Kovalam. One of the most interesting facts of this lake which attracts tourists is that a road runs across the lake. This lake is famous for hosting the grand boat race which is witnessed by a huge number of people.
 
   
Sankhumugham Beach  
   
A perfect place for watching sunset, some of the important places of interest of Sankhmugham Beach includes ‘Matsya Kanya’, which is a 35m mermaid sculpture.
 
   
Kaudiar Palace  
   
Erstwhile residence of Maharaja Sree Chitra Thirunal Bala Rama Varma, it is the most visited tourist attraction in Kovalam. However, access to this palace is forbidden by the public. Tourists enjoy the breathtaking view of this ancient structure from the entrance gate.
