Also known as the City of Palaces, Mysore retains a quaint charm that never fails to enchant. Situated in the southern part of the Deccan Plateau, Mysore District is an undulating tableland, covered in parts by granite outcrops and fringed by verdant forests. From ancient times, this district has played a significant role in the history of South India. Mysore District is a popular tourist destination, offering several attractions ranging from the royal splendour of Mysore City and its fabulous Dasara Festival to exquisite temples, pilgrimage centres and scenic spots.
 
   
Brindhavan Garden  
   
The Brindhavan garden is laid on the banks of Krishnarajasagar Dam. On the downstream of Dam the beautiful Brindavan Garden is stretched out, with well planned and well maintained lawns, innumerable pools and fountains. The Brindavan Garden was built in the year 1942, by the then India's finest Engineer - Sir M. Vishveswariah. He used limestone and brick powder instead of cement to make this Garden. The Gardens were designed by Sir Mirza Ismail - the progressive Diwan of Mysore. Spread over an area of 150 acres, the Brindavan Gardens is considered to be one of the best Gardens of India.The Dancing fountains called as musical fountains are a major attraction among the tourists. The Musical fountains have spectacular harmony of water, colors and music.
 
   
Mysore palace  
   
Mysore palace is one of the largest palaces in India and one of the most splendid. The palace was the residence of the Wodeyar Mahararaja's of the Mysore state, also known as Amba Vilas. The architectural style of the palace is commonly described as Indo-Saracenic, and blends together Hindu, Muslimajput, and Gothic styles of architecture. It is a three-storied stone structure, with marble domes and a 145 ft five-storied tower. The palace is surrounded by a large garden. A The palace houses a treasure of superb carvings and artistic works from all over the world.
 
   
St.Philomena's Church  
   
St.Philomena's Church, in constructed the Gothic style. The beautiful image of Philomena, who is known as a martyr for Christ, is placed in an underground chapel. It is over 200 years old. This statue of St. Philomena is housed in the underground chamber. This is one of the tallest churches in India. The beautiful glass-windows depict scenes from the life of Christ - his Birth, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection and the Ascension.
 
   
Chamundi Hills  
   
These hills are closed to the Mysore city. Average elevations of this hill are around thousand meters. Tourist can see a beautiful view of Mysore city from the top of this hill. With other landmarks, we can see racecourse, Mysore palace, Lalitha Mahal and Kukkrahalli lakes. At Dasara festival, Mysore Palace view from this hill looks like a glittering gold.
 
   
Mysore Zoo  
   
Mysore Zoo, also known as Chamarajendra Zoological garden, was started by Raja Chamaraja Wodeyar X in 1892. One can see many imported birds and animals. If you are a animal lover, you can adopt an animal/bird and take care of the feeding expenses for certain time. Name of the animal, adopter and origin is displayed in front of every cage.
